Do you want to connect, collaborate & contribute your science knowledge and expertise?
The Australian Citizen Science Association (ACSA), in partnership with the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), invites scientists and STEM professionals to be part of an inspiring new initiative: Citizen Science Corners in public libraries across Australia.
Citizen Science Corners connect communities with real scientific research, making libraries a hub for discovery, dialogue, and participation. We’re looking for scientists who want to extend the impact of their work beyond the lab and into the heart of the community.
This project is funded by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Science Engagement Program: Maker Projects for community STEM Engagement. Through this investment, Citizen Science Corners across Australia will create an accessible platform for youth to gain practical STEM skills and knowledge, while also building connections and networks between scientists and communities.
We are currently inviting scientists to get involved in a Citizen Science Corner!
The Australian Citizen Science Association (ACSA) and the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) are seeking Scientists to get involved in Citizen Science Corners in public libraries across Australia. You can give a talk (either online or in person), mentor local library teams, or contribute materials that make your science more accessible to the public.
We understand your time is valuable, so we have structured the opportunity to minimise effort and maximise impact:
- You can choose the level of involvement that suits you: whether it’s a one-off event, an online contribution, or a short mentoring engagement.
- Your contribution can be scheduled between June 2025 and June 2026 at a time that suits you.
- Libraries have built the Citizen Science Corners, so you won’t need to handle logistics or preparation.
- Promotion and community engagement will be managed through ACSA and ALIA’s national and local channels.
- Participation may align with your institution’s engagement or impact reporting, and your contribution will be acknowledged nationally through ACSA and ALIA communications.
By contributing your project or expertise, you can:
Increase public understanding of your research
Boost community engagement and participation in your citizen science projects
Build meaningful collaborations with libraries and local communities
Inspire the next generation of scientists
Participating in this program offers a unique opportunity to amplify your research impact by involving communities in data collection, monitoring, or analysis aligned with your work. It also provides a valuable platform for fulfilling outreach goals, building broader support for science, and increasing the reach of your communication.
